Paul Warne does not think it will be possible to sign Tom Adeyemi on a permanent deal, but has told the midfielder to consider Rotherham in the summer.
The 25-year-old has impressed during his season-long loan deal from Cardiff and Warne admits he would like him to rejoin on a full-time deal for next season.
However, as a top earner, the boss expects Adeyemi to receive offers from Championship clubs that the League One Millers will not be able to match.
“I have spoken to him,” Warne told Millers Time. “I think because he is a goalscoring midfielder he will have quite a few options and I wasn’t going to embarrass him and sit him down and say, ‘This is what we can offer you, what do you think?’.
“Tom is on a good contract, we don’t pay all of it. I would like to keep Tom and I had a respectful conversation with him where I said, ‘Don’t rule us out. Speak to us in the summer, I’d like to offer you something and if it’s quite close to what you’re getting somewhere else consider us’.
“He has enjoyed his time here and he said he would but I honestly believe he will get a Championship club which we will struggle to be competitive against.
“If I had his career I would do the same so he will go with my blessing but I will try and keep him.”
