Depending on how things pan out over the next few months Joe Newell and Jon Taylor might well earned themselves some extra credit with Paul Warne.
The Rotherham pair were not only prepared to give all they had for their manager last season, and are getting ready to do it again, but they were also willing to act as cheerleaders for Warne and the club in the pursuit of new players.
After meeting with Warne, Kyle Vassell, who on Friday penned a three-year deal at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, was invited to canvas opinion on whether he should sign on at the club.
Having played with Newell and Taylor at Peterborough, Warne demanded that Vassell get in touch with his old team-mates to find out exactly what life was like at Rotherham.
And the ex-Posh pair did not let their manager down, as they gave a glowing reference of all things Rotherham and it proved enough to persuade Vassell to sign on the dotted line.
“The manager made me (ring them)” Vassell joked. “He said that because he’d done his research on me, he wanted me to do my research as well, so I did.
“I had long conversations with both of them and they both just said you’re going to love it here, so that definitely persuaded me.
“I know them from Peterborough, they’re great lads and I’m looking forward to it.”
