Rotherham’s chances of signing Ryan Yates might just have received a boost as Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka wants to send him out on loan.
The Millers are understood to be keen on bringing the 20-year-old to the AESSEAL New York Stadium, after he impressed on loan at Scunthorpe last season.
The midfielder penned a new three-year contract last week and has been involved in Forest’s first pre-season friendlies.
Karanka wants the youngster to get games, though any departure could depend on a new midfielder coming through the door at the City Ground.
“I know his potential. I think, for him, the main thing this season is to play games,” Karanka told the Nottingham Post.
“I do not want to keep him here, knowing that his potential is massive. His quality; his personality has been amazing.
“He is a kid who, when you look at him or tell him something, you can see in his face that he is always wanting to learn.

“I need to think 100 percent about this, but the main thing for him and the club is for him to keep improving.
“I think the best thing is for him to go out on loan.”
The Millers are currently in Austria on their pre-season camp and will play their final friendly against SC Wiener Neustadt on Saturday.
Warne has so far made three new signings this summer, bringing in Clark Robertson and Kyle Vassell on free transfers from Blackpool and adding Zak Vyner on loan from Bristol City.
