Paul Warne is set to meet with Tom Adeyemi today and outline Rotherham’s plans to offer him a permanent deal.
The 25-year-old’s future has been a hot topic over the last 10 days as the Millers try and hold on to one of the star performers of a disappointing season.
Boss Warne has always been realistic about Adeyemi’s likely preference to stay in the Championship, but will hope to lay the foundations of a potential stay at New York Stadium when the pair chat.
“I had a friendly chat, not like a manager to a player, more like a mate-to-mate chat with him where I said that if he doesn’t get the move he wants then he should be considering us,” Warne said.
“I will have another chat with him and I will tell him that we are going to put something together, but I have to really incentivise it for him with goal and win bonuses and stuff.
“He is on a good contract and understandably he would want to stay in the Championship first.”
Adeyemi has made 27 appearances for the Millers during his season-long loan from Cardiff and has scored six goals, the latest of which came at Reading on Easter Monday.
He is one of the frontrunners for the club’s player of the season at the end-of-season dinner tomorrow night.
