Rotherham 5 Southend 0: Rate the players

Rotherham kick-started their League One season with a stunning demolition of Southend at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Kieffer Moore’s hat-trick and goals from Joe Newell and Ryan Williams put the Shrimpers to the sword and gave Rotherham their biggest win since 2014.

Here’s how the players rated and the chance to add your own.

Richard O’Donnell 7 – Barely got a touch in the first half but made a good double save in the second.

Josh Emmanuel 7 – A solid display on the right, helping out in attack and defence.

Semi Ajayi 7 – A few hiccups on the ball but defended well when he had to.

Michael Ihiekwe 8 – Led the defence well and snuffed out the few moments of danger.

Joe Mattock 7 – A steady outing for the left-back.

Ryan Williams 9 – A performance full of industry, full of attacking threat throughout and got himself a deserved goal.

Darren Potter 8 – Such a calming influence in the Millers midfield, used the ball wisely and allowed Frecklington to push on.

Lee Frecklington 7 – His usual busy self, leading from the front with his high energy pressing. Rested midway in second half.

Joe Newell 9 – One of Newell’s better performances, showing what a threat he can be at this level. Topped it off with the goal of the game too.

Kieffer Moore 10 – What a performance from the loan striker as he became the first hat-trick hero at New York Stadium.

Jamie Proctor 9 – Instrumental in Rotherham’s first-half romp, setting up three and unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself.

Will Vaulks 6 – Put himself about in midfield.

David Ball 6 – Missed a good chance to open his Millers account after replacing Moore.

Anthony Forde 6 – Did not really make much of an impact.
