Rotherham “getting closer” to new signings, says Richie Barker

Rotherham are hoping their summer transfer activity will hot up this week.

The Millers have added Tranmere defender Michael Ihiekwe to squad but have come up against frustration in getting deals for other targets wrapped up.

But assistant boss Richie Barker is not too concerned and expects things to start picking up.

“We are getting closer with a number of people, a lot of players are still on holiday and I don’t think anything has really hotted up in the market,” Barker said.

“We are getting closer and hopefully in the next week or so we can get at least one in.

“It is still early. In an ideal world you want to get everyone over the line by the middle of May and clock off for a couple of weeks, go on holiday knowing it’s all done, but realistically that is never going to be the case.

“Have a look, I haven’t seen that many people sign for people. That is for a multitude of reasons, players’ contracts haven’t even expired for a start and the play-offs have only just finished.

“That cascades on to other clubs.”
