What can we learn from the revelation of Rotherham’s 2018-19 squad numbers?

You know the new season is just around the corner when the new squad numbers are revealed.

It is always an interesting moment as fans and journalists alike examine them intently for any hidden meaning.

And we’re no different. So, here’s what we might be able to learn from the squad list revealed by Rotherham.

There is no doubt who will be Paul Warne’s first goalkeeper a summer-long target Marek Rodak gets the number one shirt, which Richard O’Donnell departed in January.

The Slovakian wore number 13 last season while Lewis Price gets his number 12 shirt back.

Zak Vyner gets the number two shirt – worn by Josh Emmanuel last season – ahead of experienced Billy Jones, hinting that the Bristol City loanee will begin as Warne’s preferred right-back.

With so many of last season’s squad sticking around there is no further movement for prized shirt numbers, with new signings Clark Robertson and Kyle Vassell getting 15 and 19 respectively.

Jones takes 28 and Sean Raggett will wear the 26 shirt.

Interestingly, the Millers have left 17 vacant. That was worn last season by Richie Towell, who the Millers are still interested in bringing back to the club, though face a battle.

The number 14 shirt is also free after Dominic Ball’s exit to Aberdeen.
